Our SAN is comprised of redundant error correcting controllers with an assortment of SATA and Fibre channel drives, with redundant fiber to each member of the VMware cluster. We are running all drives in multiple Raid 6 configuration sets with hot spares to prevent data loss while at the same time provide the speed needed to get the data to the VMware cluster. Our SAN is located in a secure datacenter with about 30 minutes to an hour of UPS. In the event of extended power loss, all write cached data is written out before the built in batteries in the SAN power down.
